MND / EIR and Other Site Specific Details and Background - Hoover

Please Note:  On Jan 14th the SDUSD Board of Education Trustees unanimously approved the Environmental Impact Report for the Hoover High School Athletic Facilities Upgrade Project.  The board did not even consider the modified version of Alternative 1 found in the EIR that would have still facilitated all of the school night field use requirements yet still provided mitigation measures for the two significant and immitigable impacts of the lighted field - Noise and Lighting.  Trustee Scott Barnett did state that there was a community lead effort in Point Loma with staff support that was developing a comprehensive Field Usage Policy and that the policy could be utilized across the district and would hopefully reduce allot of the negative impacts from field usage.  Mr. Barnett stated that the finished document would come before the Board of Education sometime in March.

I want to thank everyone that came to the meeting and waited the grueling 3 hours before our item was called.  I especially want to thank the many speakers that spoke at public comment.  The stand we took was not for individuals affected by the impacts of the lighted field, it was for the community that was affected.  We now must trust that the school representatives will uphold the promises made at the meeting and continue to be good neighbors and work together with us to resolve future issues.
